Abolishing The International Child Protection Office will Protect Who?

God help the children!
The featured photo is from the Dallas Gurukula in the 1970s. If my memory serves me well, the red Xs indicate children who have left Krishna Consciousness altogether in their adult years. The black crosses are three who committed suicide. The green checkmarks – only two out of more than 50 – who have continued to practice Krishna Consciousness in their adult years. And those with the yellow Xs, I can’t recall what their fate was.
The thesis of Divine or Demoniac? is that ISKCON has been infiltrated to destroy it from within. And a major effort in that regard is to destroy the faith of the second generation of devotees. And the most recent actions by the GBC give testimony to that fact. Phalena Pariciyate – judge by the result.

The following was posted on the Facebook page “The Vedic Observer,” which is devoted to advancing the cause of protecting the children of ISKCON from abuse. The article is by Sanaka Rsi Prabhu, one of the most dedicated devotees to the cause of preventing child abuse, and challenging ISKCON’s authorities to protect the children.

Tomorrow the GBC votes on this proposal to disband the International CPO and replace it with a committee of lawyers.
The proposal is convoluted and perhaps intentionally confusing. They make a lot of promises, but deliver very little with regards to precise details.
Who is going to do what, where, when and how?
When the details are unclear, there is less room for accountability.
The only thing that is clear is that the current director of the ICPO will be replaced by the Minister of Justice, who is Champakalata devi dasi.
The current head of the ICPO, Kamlesh Krsna Prabhu, is currently serving as a Magistrate in London and he also holds a masters in Advanced Child Protection from the University of Kent in the UK.
During his tenure as the CPO Director he managed to remove several notorious historical child abusers like Bhaktividyapurna and Laxmimoni.
Champakalata on the other hand is a lawyer by profession and she served as the former CPO director.
In my observation, her performance was by far the worst of all CPO directors to date. She has a proven track record of neglecting and mishandling CPO cases throughout her tenure.
So the GBCs grand proposal is to remove Kamlesh Krsna prabhu and bring in Champakalata to replace him…
What could possibly motivate the GBCs to re-appoint someone with such a poor track record?
There is one thing that Champakalata has that Kamlesh Krsna doesn’t.
Champakalata has shown that when the pressure is on, she will give in, and do the bidding of the GBCs.
By now anyone who has been paying attention knows well that the GBCs have an appalling track record with regards to Child Protection, so it is reasonable to be suspicious of any change they want to implement.
The fact that they are removing Kamlesh Krsna is evidence that he is a principled man that will not compromise values for politics. Conversely, the fact that the GBCs want to re-appoint Champakalata, is evidence that their intentions are not benevolent and it is reason for great concern.
So much for the repeated promises of the GBCs that they would never again interfere with Child Protection matters!
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen!
You are witnessing in real time the hostile take-over and disempowering of the Child Protection Office.
If history is anything to go by, these changes will make life easier for child abusers.
I ask the GBC body to clearly explain to the devotee community how the disbandment of the International CPO and the re=appointment of Champakalata serves the best interest of the protection of the devotee children worldwide.
This is a sad day for ISKCON!
Based on the GBC’s track record, what do you suppose was the result of the vote?
On January 7th, Sanaka Rsi Prabhu wrote again to give us the verdict:
It is now official!
The GBCs have formally disbanded the CPO.
RIP to the International CPO.
There are a couple of things that stand out getting these minutes.
The GBC did not spare one word to thank the devotees that selflessly served on the International CPO for so many years.
Out of the people selected to replace them only one had any notable Child Protection experience.
The fact that the new team is entirely composed by lawyers, who are for the most part untrained in Child Protection matters, clearly highlights the fact that improving the protection of Children was not the priority driving these changes.
Govinda Lilamrita, one of the lawyers, only became a devotee less than 10 years ago!!!
After getting fired as CPO director for negligence and incompetence, Champakalata, is now back in the seat! Lawyers will do what lawyers are paid to do.
